After Winning A Trip To Cancun, Marvin C. Was Lied To By The Timeshare Company Who Hosted It

Marvin and his wife won a radio competition that awarded them a free vacation trip to Cancun, Mexico. Since it was free, the married couple did not want it to go to waste and decided to take advantage of the opportunity. Unfortunately, they fell for this far too common ploy used by timeshare companies.

We hope their story will help enlighten you on some of the tactics used by the timeshare industry on good, unsuspecting people. Names of people and companies have been changed or omitted due to privacy concerns.

“Part of the deal was to go to a 90-minute presentation with the timeshare company. We went in with the intent to not sign up for anything and explained to the representatives we had financial limitations. Then they started paying for all of our meals, giving us free local attraction tickets, and even changed our current stay at the resort to all-inclusive. This, and much more, was all done to convince us to sign up. So instead of 90 minutes, it ended up going for 7 hours.”

Even after all the gifts from the representatives, Marvin and his wife were still hesitant about such an excessive purchase. They reminded the salespeople that this was far out of their price range, even admitting it would be useless for them because they typically don’t vacation every year.

“Then the representative started telling us we could use the timeshare as an investment and we’d be able to rent our room out year-round. The other salespeople in the room came over and confirmed all that we were told and more about all the benefits that come with it. We still did not have the funds for a downpayment that day, so we were encouraged to sign up for a credit card.”

Marvin and his wife started to get the impression that this could be an investment for them and something they could receive an income from in the future. Soon after leaving, they found this all to be wrong.

“He told us that he would personally assist us during the renting process, but it became very difficult to contact him after the presentation. When we finally got a hold of him, he told us he could not help us because the timeshare company would not allow it. It was just lie after lie with him.”

After seeing a few of our advertisements on TV, Marvin reached out to us and we were able to terminate their timeshare and all debt associated with it.* Now that they are free of this financial stress, Marvin and his wife vow to never get involved with another timeshare again.

If you know someone whose timeshare experience is similar to Marvin’s, please feel free to pass along our phone number below. We would be more than happy to see if they qualify for our timeshare termination services.
