The married couple, Logan and Mallory T. went into their timeshare sales presentation saying that there was no way they would buy a timeshare. They were offered a free stay at a Las Vegas resort as long as they agreed to attend this presentation. What was supposed to be a short meeting with no pressure to buy, quickly turned into an onslaught of deceptive sales practices towards the couple.
The following is a firsthand, written account about Logan and Mallory’s terrible timeshare experience. This industry and these resorts need to be held at a higher standard and we hope this story will bring more awareness to the growing issues at hand. “We were not interested in owning a timeshare at first as we didn’t know much about them, so we went in saying there’s no way we’d actually buy one. Well, then the sales folks told us everything we could possibly want to hear. What we understood was that if we were owners then we’d be able to stay at all these fancy resorts whenever we like at least once every year. They made us feel like we couldn’t pass it up like it was a once in a lifetime deal.”
The salespeople misled Logan and Mallory on how timeshares truly work and as a result, the couple was quite interested. Now the only issue for them was the price, but that didn’t stop the salespeople. After several hours stuck in the meeting room and numerous price reductions, the couple still felt uncomfortable paying, but at this point, they couldn’t think of any other way out.
“So for the first few years, we tried to use the timeshare but could not even find a single resort available to vacation at. It didn’t matter the time of year or location we looked at, there was never any availability. This caused us to pay out of pocket to stay at other places for most of our vacations despite already paying $25,000 for this timeshare plus the annual maintenance fees.”
Logan and Mallory had invested so much money into their timeshare and were continuing to do so through the nonstop maintenance fees, but the results were minimal. The couple owned this timeshare for just under a decade and in all that time, their timeshare was only used once. That one time was when their daughter finally booked a trip, although it was just back to Las Vegas again.
“We were under the impression that there’d be a large variety of vacation spots for us to choose from. During that first sales presentation, they showed us hundreds of photos from different resorts we could visit with our timeshare at any time. We tried all of them but got nothing. Buying a timeshare was the stupidest decision we ever made because you can’t even use it!”
