Drew and Debbie’s Timeshare Never Accommodated Their Hectic Schedules

Drew and Debbie travel to Hawaii quite a bit for a casual vacation between their hectic work schedules. The couple’s schedules didn’t allow for long-term vacation planning, so they tended to plan their trips pretty last minute. That worked for them when staying at traditional hotels and resorts, but they were told that a timeshare would save them time and money. Drew and Debbie soon realized that this was not the case, and they found themselves in a terrible situation.

The following is a firsthand account about Drew and Debbie’s deceptive timeshare experience. We hope their story will help shed a light on the distrustful practices of the timeshare sales industry. Names have been changed or redacted due to privacy concerns.

“We vacation in Hawaii regularly--6 nights at a time. While on vacation in Waikiki on our way to breakfast, we passed a timeshare group. They offered a free breakfast and a 100 dollar voucher to use at an island attraction if we would listen to their presentation.

At the presentation, I explained to them that in my line of work, I didn’t know my monthly schedule until the middle of the previous month. In other words, we make reservations on very short notice. We were led to believe that being owners at Waikiki, we would have special considerations over other owners in terms of reservation power. In fact, we were told that last minute reservations were not going to be a problem, as last minute cancellations were common.

[The timeshare salesmen] also said that we would save money on each trip by using our timeshare for 6 nights rather then staying in a hotel.”

Even though they were told so many positive things during their timeshare sales presentation, Drew and Debbie realized that their hectic schedules were NOT ideal for timeshare ownership. Little did they know, no one’s schedule is ideal for timeshare ownership; that’s because your time or destination is likely ‘never available!’

“We quickly discovered that our Waikiki property had no advantage over other properties.

We also discovered that there were no last minute cancellations from other owners. We could never get the dates we wanted on short notice.”

After some time, the couple decided that this timeshare simply wasn’t for them or their hectic schedules. Naturally, though, the timeshare company was unwilling to work with them on selling or renting the property, so the company obviously wasn’t going to take it back that easily.

“Within a year of purchasing this timeshare, we realized that it was not going to work for us. We were able to use it for a few nights, but it wasn’t during the times we wanted and the number of nights we needed. We relied on the promise of easy last minute reservations!”

After some research online, Drew stumbled across the website for Wesley Financial Group, LLC’s (WFG) timeshare cancellation services. When he gave WFG a call and discovered that he was eligible, Drew decided to move forward after discussing the possibility of ending their timeshare with Debbie. It took several months and persistence on their part, but Drew and Debbie are now timeshare free with WFG’s assistance!* They are now able to enjoy their last minute vacations on their own time and with less hassle.
