Ann Ruth Y. Was Told Her Timeshare Would Benefit Her Children

As a single mother of three girls, Ann Ruth was made to believe that the purchase of her timeshare would be a great investment for her to one day pass down to her girls. What she didn’t realize was just how difficult it would be to book trips with her timeshare company.

“I was told that the timeshare would be a great investment for me and my girls. Since it was transferable, I could give it to them. I was also told that it would be affordable for me. The sales representative made it sound that $300 a month would not affect me financially, and instead, it would provide me the opportunity to explore the world.”

After she went through with the purchase, Ann Ruth began to see just all of the lies she was told. She tried to book numerous trips, but ended up having to go outside of her timeshare company because of the lack of availability. 

“The major pain point with my timeshare company was the difficulty of getting international reservation nights. In 2019, I planned a two-week trip to Spain and could not find any company affiliated hotels/motels in Spain to reserve. It was frustrating, and I ended up staying at a different company’s hotels in Spain. I discovered it cost less to use other websites to reserve travel nights. When I calculated the yearly cost comparison, my timeshare cost way more. I paid less than $1,500 for a two-week stay in Spain. This was in comparison to $3,600 annually with my timeshare company.”

When Ann Ruth reminisces on her timeshare sales proceeding, what upsets her the most was the price point she was given. 

“I told the sales representative the only range I could afford was between $200-300. She told me that she could help me out and keep it right at $300. But then when I got my first bill it was over $300.”
