Cheryl J.’s Finances Sank When Trying to Keep Her Timeshare Mortgage Afloat

From her purchase to ownership, Cheryl has experienced a situation that many other owners know all too well. She has owned her timeshare for several years now, but she hasn’t been able to use it in the ways she was told during that hours-long timeshare sales meeting.

Below is a firsthand, written account from Cheryl J. about her continuously frustrating timeshare experience. We hope Cheryl’s story will help shed a light on the deceptive practices of the timeshare sales industry. Names have been changed or redacted due to privacy concerns.

When Cheryl and her friend were on vacation, they were approached walking on the street by a person offering free tickets to local attractions and shows. All they had to do was attend a 45 minute presentation about some timeshares. This meeting on the street wasn’t high pressure and the person seemed very honest, so how bad could the next meeting be, right?

“At the meeting, they told me how I could use the timeshare to send my children on trips and that I would be leaving a great inheritance. They quoted me a price, but I said I couldn’t handle that so they kept coming down on price. I ended up speaking to three or four different sales people. They even took us on a tour of the resort just to sucker us in.”

Timeshare sales reps tend to swarm potential buyers in packs, and it takes an immense amount of stubbornness on your part as the guest in their space to keep saying “No, thank you” adamantly before they will allow you to leave unscathed.

“I feel like I was pressured into buying this timeshare based on lies. I was not under that kind of pressure when I bought my home! I was made to feel that I would be owning this timeshare, but I found out that this is not true.”

After purchasing her timeshare based on such falsehoods, it’s pretty easy to see where Cheryl’s story is going. As a first generation homeowner, she felt financially trapped between her obligations on her personal mortgage and the mortgage on her timeshare. On top of that, she was constantly pressured by timeshare spam calls.

Cheryl resorted to taking out some personal loans with exorbitant interest rates just to cover her timeshare fees, but she was never really able to use the timeshare when it was ‘available’ for her family.

“Over the years, paying maintenance fees for this timeshare has doubled the amount that I paid for my own home. I still have to pay taxes and maintenance fees on my personal home as well, so this is definitely not a good investment.

If I had fully understood what I was buying back then, there is no way in heaven that I would have bought a timeshare.”

Cheryl felt that she was out of options when she stumbled upon an advertisement for Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG). With our assistance and some true personal determination, Cheryl is now timeshare-free!* She now has the opportunity to truly save for retirement as well as an actual vacation with her family.
