Having been a widow for about two years, Carolyn decided to take a short trip to Las Vegas to get some vacation time. “I remember the presentation about the timeshare was very long. It felt like it was never going to end. Then, the follow up meetings included several levels of management. Each one would try to pressure me into signing up for timeshare. Having a definite need for a vacation after the death of my husband, it sounded good at the time.”
Carolyn would eventually return home and try to book vacations a few months later. After a failing to book due to availability, she felt misled. Finally she got through, but it was nothing to write home about.
“After attempting to book a few vacations and getting no success, I was very frustrated. It seemed every attempt was met with more sales presentations. We were told that we could schedule vacations between six months and one year in advance. “I was told that the points purchased would cover vacation locations. This meant various locations all over the country and some internationally. The points pretty much covered it all except the monthly maintenance fees. Truth be known, there were many additional expenses that had to be paid in addition to the timeshare points. I also was told that there was a five-day regret clause. I was not told that this included the weekends. I contacted the contracting people to cancel my contract when I returned home from vacation, but it turned out to be day six.”
