Danny and Karen were offered โfreeโ gifts in exchange for attending a timeshare presentation like so many other families are on a daily basis, but their story doesnโt just include an unusable timeshare; not even the โfreeโ gifts had much use!
Below is a written account of the timeshare ordeal that Danny and Karenโs family experienced. We hope their written account will enlighten some of the tactics that the timeshare industry often uses on good, unsuspecting people. Names of people have been changed and/or redacted for privacy reasons.
Danny and Karen attended their timeshare meeting after an enticing offer of a free cruise was presented to them. This 3+ hour meeting consisted of the couple meeting 4-6 sales people, facing intense sales pressure, and being given โfreeโ gifts that werenโt worth much of anything when they tried to later use them!
โAt the presentation, we started out sitting with one salesperson, but at one time we had between four and six people talking to us at once. They told us before we came that the presentation was only going to be 90 minutes, but it lasted well over three hours. They offered us a free cruise if we came to the meeting, which turned out to be a lie. We werenโt guaranteed a room on the cruise ship, and we also had to pay taxes, port expenses and some other fees.โ
The free cruise wasnโt the only aspect of their timeshare purchase that never sailed smoothly. Danny and Karen soon encountered a commonly used sales tactic by timeshare companies. When they tried to reserve their unit for any time or date on the weekends, they werenโt able to because their unit was โnot availableโ. After attempting to book multiple times, the couple was distraught. They continued to pay outrageous amounts of maintenance fees and other financial obligations, but they were never able to use their vacation home for its purpose!
โWe arenโt retired, so itโs nearly impossible for us to go whenever they say itโs usually available. They always say they have availability during the weekdays, but they never have any availability during the weekends when we try to book something.โ
The couple became fed up with making payments for a timeshare that they never used, so they did their research. After finding Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG) online, they decided to see if they qualify for our assistance with their timeshare cancellation. The couple was qualified and worked for months, going back and forth with their timeshare company, but thanks to their perseverance and some ongoing guidance from WFG, they are finally timeshare free!*
