The following is a written account of how Vicky A. was deceived into making a timeshare purchase. Names of people have been changed and/or redacted for privacy reasons.
“We were offered some show tickets to attend a visit to the resort. We were told that this timeshare was previously owned by another member who had decided to upgrade and that we were getting it at a steal!
After being introduced to multiple salesmen, we were impressed by a nice little cottage and a short tour of the grounds. Once the tour was over, we were given a speech about future improvements. We were also told that family and friends could use our timeshare at little or no cost.”
Once Vicky returned home and had time to digest her timeshare options and concerns, she realized the extreme limitations of her timeshare. However, she had already made the big purchase and knew she was trapped.
“The greatest concern was not having access to the timeshare every year. We could only enjoy the timeshare once every three years, and we were told that we had to schedule our trip no more than 30 days prior to our arrival at the resort.
We weren’t able to stay at the handicapped accessible cottages that we were originally told either. With elderly parents, this was one of the main points that made me decide to get the timeshare. However, when we first arrived at the resort I realized we were booked in a cottage that was up a steep hill, with slanted sidewalks, no banisters and parking spaces in a group lot with no parking lines.”
Vicky gave the timeshare a few more tries (after a lot of issues with booking), but they consistently sent them to these very “rugged” areas of the resort, where her family had issues with direct access. After paying exorbitant maintenance fees and continual booking issues, Vicky decided she had enough of paying for these “resort” cottages and wanted out of her timeshare.
She then contacted us here at Wesley Financial Group, LLC (“WFG”) to help cancel her timeshare, and she is now living timeshare-free!*
