Below is a word for word account of the timeshare nightmare that Bruce and Narda D. experienced. Bruce & Narda’s Client Story
“A member of my church gifted me a week at Governor Green Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. We attended a presentation there. We were told that all we had to do was come to breakfast and listen to their presentation and we would receive passes to go into Colonial Williamsburg. The presentation ended up being at least four hours and it sounded so good for a number of reasons.
First, my wife and I are both ministers and I acknowledge being a “workaholic” and have difficulty taking time off. I thought this would be a way of “forcing” myself to take vacations. Second, we knew that our son and our grandsons were planning a trip to Disney World and we thought we could use the timeshare to take them there. Also, as ministers we don’t have a lot that we felt we could “pass on” to our children when we are gone and thought this was something they would be able to enjoy even after we are gone. Our salesman really used those reasons in his sales pitch – even told us his father had been a minister so he understood our situation.
My father had recently died so we figured to use funds from the sale of his house as a down payment. Every time we started to question buying into the timeshare, something was thrown in to “sweeten” the pot. We were there so long that we not only had our breakfast but they brought us lunch as well.
In total, I think there were at least three people, maybe four, who helped us because as he said, he understood our lifestyle because of his father and really wanted to see us benefit from this “deal.” We didn’t realize how much the maintenance fees were going to be and that they keep going up year after year.”
