Mark and Mary B. bought into their first timeshare as a young couple hoping to offset the costs of the many vacations they usually took. Little did they know about the lifetime commitment they were ultimately getting themselves into. What started as one timeshare option eventually multiplied into an unmanageable hassle and barrage of pushy salespeople, empty promises and false information.
The following is a written account of Mark and Maryโs timeshare experience. Names of people have been changed and/or redacted for privacy reasons.
โWe were told that the timeshare we were getting had great trading power because everyone wanted to go there and it traded easily.
We were later sucked into another timeshare meeting, where we were told that the paperwork for our original timeshare was not completed correctly. They said that they could reimburse us for the timeshare and put us in a two bedroom with a floating week, every year, for a little bit more morey, which would give us maximum trading power and get us into any resort we wanted for any date we wanted.โ
Eventually, though, the couple realized that many of these promises were actually lies that the salespeople were telling to get one thing–their money. The salespeople offered them several items including some $1,000 gifts, but these offerings, too, were sales tactics to keep the couple in their timeshare.
โWhen we got home and had time to review the fine print, we had to end up spending more than $1,000 to get those discounts and credits. The entire program was very stressful and a hassle. They played us,โ said Mark. โThey knew we werenโt able to get what we wanted so [they] made all these empty promises that would fix it all, but that was all lies.โ
After years of torment and endless haggling, the couple decided to call Wesley Financial Group, LLC (โWFGโ), to see if they were eligible for any timeshare cancellation services. They are now working with us to terminate their timeshare and hope that others will learn from their mistakes.*
โThe fact that my wife and I were young, lied to, and suckered into what we thought was something that we could share with our family and make awesome memories, has turned out to be a costly burden we should not have to suffer from or pay for forever,โ says Mark.
