Bailey & Brandon Thought An Upgrade Would Make Their Timeshare Easier To Use

This couple got caught up in the lies and deception of timeshare salespeople as they were told this was the best and most cost-efficient way to vacation. They found out the hard way that timeshares are not the smart way, financially, to vacation but rather the opposite. 

The following is a written account from Bailey and Brandon on their encounters within the timeshare industry and why they vow to never return to it. Names of people and places have been changed or redacted for privacy reasons. 

“We got offered a free two-night stay and in return, all we had to do was attend a short upgrade presentation. As soon as we arrived, we were also offered a $200 incentive for attending. We later realized both of these acts were used against us in the selling process. Really we weren’t even interested in an upgrade because we weren’t having any issues and only attended when they offered the free resort stay.”

Salespeople will use free stays and discounts to persuade you into coming to their domain. Once you arrive though, be prepared for the most high-pressured sales pitch of your lives.  

“At the presentation, they told us our ownership at the resort was no longer good and what most other owners were doing was upgrading. They made it sound like it was our only option. Then we started talking about money. We thought the asking price was $13,600 and they gave us a pre-approved credit card to cover $8,000 of it. Turns out we still had to pay the full $13,600 along with covering the credit card also. We felt instantly scammed.”

They will look you in your eyes and tell you one thing and then turn around and have you sign something saying the complete opposite. Always be on your toes when speaking with timeshare representatives.

“We felt like they were playing with our desires to spend family time together on vacations and using it against us. After upgrading, we had a very difficult time finding places to vacation. Nothing was ever available. It was already tough for us to plan a trip in advance for the whole family, but even when we looked out over a year in advance, everywhere we wanted to go was still unavailable. ”

It turns out that many timeshare owners have had similar experiences of being forced into an upgrade that ruined their timeshare experience. Don’t worry, there’s still a way out though.

“Then we got worried that this financial burden could one day fall into the laps of our children, and they would be responsible for all the costs. This didn’t sit well with us so we searched and searched for ways out. It was a television ad we saw of Chuck McDowell and his timeshare cancellation business that caught our attention.
