While on vacation with their family, Regina and Lee were constantly harassed by timeshare representatives who were urging them to attend a sales presentation. Tired of their vacation time being cut into by these salespeople, they decided to give in and go to their presentation but with the plan to not purchase anything.
This is how it starts for so many families and yet, they still end up like most other timeshare owners, in debt. Below is a firsthand account from Regina and Lee on their experience in the treacherous timeshare industry. We hope their story will help shed a light on the deceitful tactics that take place within the timeshare industry. Names of people and places have been changed and/or redacted for privacy reasons.
“Upon the initial purchase of the timeshare, it was disclosed to us that our timeshare unit would be available upon request at all times for us. We were unsure still, and so we wanted to make sure we got the specifics down and understood everything before we eventually agreed. Turns out, we were just blatantly lied to. Every time we tried to book a vacation, which was several times, our timeshare was never available for us. Even though we were paying quite a bit for it.”
Timeshare salespeople tell you what you want to hear, plain and simple. Whether they have to lie or greatly exaggerate, they will do whatever it takes for them to just get a sale. It is unfortunate that so many innocent people have to fall victim to this behavior from the timeshare industry.
“At first we would have been happy to just be able to actually book a vacation. But then, the exuberant fees and payments became too much of a financial burden for us to carry. The inability to book any trips for several years left a bad taste in our mouths, but the fact that we were still paying such high costs while not even being able to use it, is what pushed it over the edge for us.”
People really believe it when they are told that a timeshare is an investment. Once a few years go by and the influx of fees never ceases, you may change your mind.
“We knew the timeshare would continue to be a future burden for us because of the endless costs and fees. Although it was described as a beautiful and long-lasting investment when we bought it, it only turned out to be an awful undertaking and a nightmare experience for our family.“
