Widow Taken Advantage Of By Timeshare Salespeople

Debbie F. purchased a timeshare because she was given the impression that she would be able to take annual vacations there. She had no knowledge of a timeshare points system before her purchase and she still did not afterward either. Timeshare salespeople purposely mislead her into an unfair situation which took years for her to fully recover financially.

This is a firsthand story recounted by Debbie of how she was deceived by the sales representatives she encountered that day. We hope it will enlighten you to many of the malpractices that commonly take place during the sales of timeshares. Names of people and companies have been changed or omitted due to privacy concerns.

“I was on vacation with my cousin back in ‘09 when I was first approached by a timeshare company. They were at the resort we were staying at and convinced us to go to their presentation. I told them initially I was not interested, but they seemed to have disregarded that and began really pushing the sale. Once they learned that I was recently widowed, I felt as if they started focusing on that and using it for their pitch.”

Timeshare sales representatives will use anything to their advantage. They are constantly seeking out a weakness in their potential clients to capitalize on for their own benefit.

“One sales rep kept bringing up me being a widow and how with a timeshare I would have a guaranteed place to vacation for myself every year. When I was still not showing interest, the price started to drop and gifts were brought. If I purchased a timeshare that day then I would get to choose between a free week-stay at Disneyland or a cruise. It was starting to sound like a good deal with everything they were offering.”

Don’t fall for the gimmicks from timeshare salespeople. They will offer the world, but rarely does any of it come to fruition. Did it go any different for Debbie?

“The salespeople said they never had anyone who had trouble with their cruise or Disneyland stays, but of course it didn’t work out for me. I chose the cruise tickets but I still had to book it myself. Well when I would try and do so, there was never any availability. Never. I later learned this would be a common problem as a new timeshare owner.”

Debbie tried to make use of her timeshare over the next few years, but never had the chance. The salespeople told her she would be able to vacation at that resort annually, but a year later she found out that it all depended on how many points she had. She thought to herself, “What are points?”

That is not what Debbie was led to believe she was purchasing, and after owning it for close to a full decade, she never got to visit it once. She even offered it to her family and friends to try and use but the cost alone scared them off. After years of putting up with paying for something so useless, she finally picked up the phone and called Wesley Financial Group, LLC. Once Debbie did that, it was not long before she was completely timeshare-free!*

“I am so happy I called Wesley! They helped walk me through the termination process and answered any questions I had. If it wasn’t for them, I would still be stuck with that dreadful timeshare.”
