Howard & Jane Were Told Their Timeshare Gave Vacation Flexibility. It Gave Them None.

Howard and Jane’s timeshare sales meeting was pushy, but the couple recalls the overall positive tone that the many salesmen kept throughout the 4+ hours they were stuck in the meeting. However, this positive meeting tone would soon turn into a rather negative timeshare owner experience for their entire family.

Below is a firsthand, written account about Howard & Jane’s continuously frustrating timeshare experience. We hope their story will help shed a light on the deceptive practices of the timeshare sales industry. Names have been changed or redacted due to privacy concerns.

When Howard and Jane attended their timeshare presentation in Orlando, FL, the timeshare salesman had A LOT of room to work with when pitching their false claims to the couple. The resort that they were visiting was under construction, so the sales team pushed their claims and false hopes more than anything.

“These pictures of many lovely resorts, rooms and multiple amenities at the resorts got us excited to be a part of what was to come. The sales people, sales office and presentation were all slick, fancy and welcoming, as they pushed us to buy into the vacation ownership mindset.

They also told us that it would be so easy to find somewhere else to “get away” to since there were so many other [timeshare company] properties to exchange for an ideal vacation. They made it seem so simple and fulfilling.”

The couple ran into issues not long after their purchase. They made their monthly payments as outlined in their timeshare agreement, but it seemed like the timeshare was never available to book when they were actually able to use it. What was the point in Howard & Jane committedly paying their maintenance fees toward the timeshare, but never being able to use it?

Unfortunately, this is the case all too often with so many new timeshare owners. They may not immediately regret the purchase, but timeshare companies and salesmen (that will often never speak to you again after the initial transaction) will soon show their true colors and feelings towards so many timeshare owners.

“Our maintenance fees continue to rise and we haven’t been able to use the points as we expected from the information given at the presentation. Recent retirement has changed our finances, and we worry that we cannot afford to retire as we’d planned.

Our children also have NO interest and cannot afford the fees. We surely don’t want to pass along a financial burden to anyone else.”

The couple felt that they had nowhere to turn when it came to exiting their timeshare. They’d discussed selling or renting out their timeshare, but the associated fees only discouraged them more from taking any further action about changing their timeshare situation.

One day, though, they found us here at Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG). With our assistance and hard work on their part, Howard & Jane are now timeshare-free!*
