Joseph & Elaine Saved Nearly $1,700 Per Month After Cancelling Their Timeshare!

Joseph and Elaine loved to arrive at their destination a few days early when traveling, mostly because they wanted to enjoy the sights and sounds of Galveston, Texas. When they arrived in the port city 24 years ago, the couple had no idea just what kind of financial trap they’d walked into.

The following is a firsthand account about Joseph and Elaine's deceptive timeshare experience. We hope their story will help shed a light on the distrustful practices of the timeshare sales industry. Names have been changed or redacted due to privacy concerns.

When they were approached by a timeshare representative while enjoying their short vacation in Galveston, Texas, Joseph & Elaine weren’t expecting what was to come next. The couple was really excited about some of the free gifts that were promised if they only attended the ‘short’ meeting.

‘We had a noon appointment and didn’t get out of there until between 4 pm and 5 pm...They looked at us like we were crazy for not knowing about timeshare perks we could be taking advantage of.

[The sales representative] explained to us how we would be able to use our timeshare seamlessly when booking, exchanging or renting out the unit. They also said we could use our purchased points to offset maintenance fees as well. They then told us that the down payment and everything could be financed in house to make it easier for us, too.”

When Joseph and Elaine received their first annual maintenance fee bill, the couple quickly discovered that a lot of the ‘perks’ they were told of would never be useful. They had to pay all of their bills associated with their timeshare out of pocket, and the bills alone left them with no money to actually travel with.

As many timeshare owners know, the thousands of dollars in maintenance and ownership costs only cover the timeshare itself. When it comes to the logistics of planning the vacation, the associated travel costs and planning still fall on your shoulders as the traveler!

“So far, the things impacted by this purchase are a constant loss of sleep, stress-induced migraines and the few days of work loss due to them, and the inability to get rid of a common cold from the stress.

We’ve never even been able to use the timeshare.”

Joseph and Elaine have calculated the monthly costs for this timeshare, and those costs exceed $1,600 per month! On top of their monthly costs, the couple was facing nearly $18,000 in timeshare mortgage debt before they discovered Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG), on the radio one day.

The couple further researched WFG after hearing that radio advertisement and figured they would at least try to escape this timeshare nightmare. Joseph and Elaine had been discussing getting rid of a timeshare for a while, but they didn’t think they’d ever have any luck escaping it.

After contacting WFG and finding out we could help them, though, Joseph and Elaine were able to cancel their timeshare! On top of that, they are now saving nearly $1,700 per month because of their freedom from the timeshare.*
