When they were approached by a timeshare representative while enjoying their short vacation in Galveston, Texas, Joseph & Elaine weren’t expecting what was to come next. The couple was really excited about some of the free gifts that were promised if they only attended the ‘short’ meeting.
‘We had a noon appointment and didn’t get out of there until between 4 pm and 5 pm...They looked at us like we were crazy for not knowing about timeshare perks we could be taking advantage of.
[The sales representative] explained to us how we would be able to use our timeshare seamlessly when booking, exchanging or renting out the unit. They also said we could use our purchased points to offset maintenance fees as well. They then told us that the down payment and everything could be financed in house to make it easier for us, too.”
When Joseph and Elaine received their first annual maintenance fee bill, the couple quickly discovered that a lot of the ‘perks’ they were told of would never be useful. They had to pay all of their bills associated with their timeshare out of pocket, and the bills alone left them with no money to actually travel with.
