Lucia S. Finds Trouble In Being Used As a Salesperson For Timeshare

Lucia S.' Client Story

 

“In 2003, I bought a timeshare with a company at one of their Florida resorts – within close proximity to Disney World because my son was little at the time. As years passed and my son grew up, we stopped going to Disney World. I paid off that timeshare. A few more years passed and they opened another location in Las Vegas. I visited their resort and they convinced me to change to that resort in Las Vegas. They gave me a credit of $30,000 for my Florida timeshare, but in Florida and Las Vegas, there was always a problem to schedule a week. I only was able to do it once in Florida for a friend and my brother. When they opened in Las Vegas, I tried to book some of my weeks in the suites. They didn't have them ready so I got a few rooms for me and my friends in exchange.”

 

Though the waters may have seemed a little murky at first, Lucia hadn’t been totally misled yet and therefore continued in the process. This time, she’s given advice about helping pay her mortgage with money she can obtain from others renting out her timeshare.

 

“This year, back in April, I was celebrating my birthday. I rented a room and that was when I got invited to a dinner where I was told, ‘Oh my God! The person who attended before you left a lot of stuff out and you are eligible for a lot more and your timeshare is more valuable!’ They also got me to believe that I can have other people schedule vacations and I can get money for that and I can pay what is now a very high mortgage!”

 

For Lucia, things just didn’t add up

 

“I now realize that I became one of their salespeople and they wanted me to do their job – selling their timeshares. I do not have the time to do this and in the meantime my credit card charges are insane. This is not to mention the two losses in my family that I suffered, making my financial situation even harder on top of all of this.”
