Walter, Who’s Diagnosed With Parkinson’s, Was Targeted By Timeshare Salespeople

If you know anyone who’s endured Parkinson’s disease then you understand how much of a struggle it can be. This is why Walter A. and his wife wanted to take one last big trip before his condition worsened and he would be unable to travel anymore. This brought them to the doorstep of a timeshare resort.

What happened during their stay here was the result of years and years of turning a blind eye to the deceitful practices used by timeshare salespeople. Below is a firsthand account from Walter on his experiences at the resort during that stay and what came from it. Names have been changed or redacted due to potential privacy concerns.

From the very first day that Walter and his wife showed up at this resort, they were specifically targeted by a timeshare salesperson. What appeared to be just a nice employee at first, was actually a deceptive salesperson grooming their clients.

“[Salesperson Name] seemed very nice at first. Whenever we needed something, he seemed to always be there to help us. He was constantly checking on us and taking care of us during the whole stay. He definitely was working to gain our trust because on our last day he asked us to meet with him in his office.”

Whether it was the couple’s age or Walter’s disability, the timeshare salesperson saw a weakness that they could potentially take advantage of. Now, when the couple came to the meeting, they were instantly separated by different salespeople and the pressure was turned all the way up.

“When we got to the office, they split us up and my wife went with another salesperson. We didn’t appreciate this at all. We weren’t interested in buying anything but even if we were, we’d like to be together to make such a decision. Anyways, my wife was uncomfortable and flustered by all of this and signed whatever paper they put in front of her just so she could get out.”

Walter’s wife had actually signed a timeshare mortgage agreement. The couple could not afford the downpayment for such a purchase but were told the paperwork was already signed. So they were then pushed to get a new credit card that day just to cover it.

“Now the timeshare mortgage my wife signed was for $25,000 and they said we’d get a copy of the paperwork in the mail later. Now the kicker was finding out the mortgage was really $47,000! We were retired and on a fixed income so there was no way we could do it. Not only that but I also couldn’t travel anymore due to my condition so this all seemed like a waste of our money.”

Not happy with how everything turned out, Walter called and pleaded with the resort to cancel this agreement. The resort staff informed him that there was a week to rescind the purchase and they had missed that period. The truth of the matter is that Walter and his wife did not receive any paperwork until multiple weeks had passed.

Knowing the resort would not help them, this couple thought they were stuck with this timeshare and the bills that came with it for the rest of their lives. It was not until they were referred to Wesley Financial Group, LLC by a family friend that they once again had hope.

We took on Walter as a client pro-bono and were determined to see this timeshare nightmare put to an end for them. Now just one year since approaching us, Walter can say that he is in fact timeshare-free once again.* He and his wife can now focus their attention and energy on one another and never have to be affiliated with that timeshare again.

If you know anyone with a similar timeshare experience, please feel free to pass our phone number along to them. We’d love to see if they qualify for our timeshare termination services.
