Brian W.’s Timeshare Is Negatively Impacting His Family’s Future

Shortly after making considerable investments for his family such as purchasing a new house and sending his children to college, Brian was swindled into buying a timeshare. “While on vacation with my family in Las Vegas, I was pulled into one of those sales presentations that offered a free cruise trip if I attended. I was under the impression that it was no purchase necessary, but once there, I was highly pressured and intimidated into buying a timeshare. I asked on multiple occasions for more time to think about the offer but was always countered with the argument I had to decide right now, because it was a one-time-only deal.”

Many times timeshare representatives will use a number of different lies to get people to sign up, but what do they do when those people do not have the financial means to afford it? Well, they feed them more lies and push a new credit card on to them to cover the payments.

“In order to purchase this timeshare, we were persuaded into opening a new credit card account for the down payment. I was told I would not have to make any payment on this card for at least the first six months, but I received the first bill in less than a month. That just became yet another debt that my family did not need in their lives right now.”

Brian and his wife were at a moment in their life when they already had several extra expenses with no room for more. Even though they instructed the salespeople they were not in a position to make any more unnecessary expenditures, the intimidation never let up.   

“This purchase was made less than a year after we bought our new house, and all the money we drained into the timeshare could have been much more effectively spent on maintaining our new home. It was emptying our pockets for no good reason and creating an unnecessary debt for my family’s future. Since purchasing the timeshare, we were not able to use it once and all the money we had spent on it would have been a great help in paying for our daughter’s college.”
