Vicki and Dan J. were offered extravagant gift cards in exchange for their attendance to a presentation about an exclusive vacation opportunity…or so they were told.
Below is a word for word account of the timeshare ordeal that Vicki and Dan J. experienced. We hope the coupleโs written account will enlighten some of the tactics that the timeshare industry often uses on good, unsuspecting people. Names of people have been changed and/or redacted for privacy reasons.
Vicki and Dan J. decided to attend a short meeting in order to receive some extravagant gift certificates to local area businesses since they were already on vacation in Myrtle Beach. They sat through that initial meeting for nearly three hours before they were โconvinced to pursue the timeshare on a trial basis,โ said Vicki. Their friend was also interested in the timeshare and had attended the meeting with them, but decided to back out of the agreement during the initial rescission period of the timeshare.
When the couple attended a second ownersโ meeting about upgrading their timeshare option several years after the initial purchase, they were told that they could spend vacations in other locations besides their usual Myrtle Beach…if only theyโd upgrade.
โWe were told that if we upgraded, we could travel to other places like Charleston, SC, where Iโd always tried to go but could never get a reservation. We were persuaded to use a new, exclusive credit card from [timeshare company] to make the minimum down payment for the upgrade. A follow up presentation later revealed that we were not at that higher level.โ
Although they were able to use their timeshare at Myrtle Beach, the coupleโs regularly-billed fees kept creeping up while the timeshareโs availability was shrinking every year. They also experienced quite unpleasant experiences during the times they were able to use certain timeshare property locations.
โWe visited several locations that didnโt provide a clean, peaceful experience for us and that has left us very weary to travel to anymore properties owned by [timeshare company]. One time, I had to sweep the unit as soon as we arrived, and when I showed the front desk we had to get housekeeping involved. I didnโt feel comfortable staying in the unit after that, and I donโt understand why we paid thousands of dollars to have to clean our own unit when we arrived.โ
The couple has since tried to escape their timeshare, once unsuccessfully. Vicki says that they were not informed of the rising maintenance fees associated with the timeshare, and she says that the constant anxiety of trying to book a trip through the timeshare company has not been worth what theyโve paid for the timeshare over time.
After finding and working with us here at Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG), Vicki and Dan J. have been able to successfully eliminate their timeshare and the crippling anxiety that comes with it!*
โWe have relieved ourselves and our children of the financial burden that had continued to grow thanks to Wesley Financial Group.
