Reggie Was Misled (Not Necessarily Lied to) About His Timeshare

Reggie had traveled with a well-known leisure company for decades, and as a military husband and father, he was quite accustomed to traveling. Since this company had invited him to a timeshare sales meeting and had provided Reggie with a discounted vacation package as part of the presentation, he felt that it would be worth his time to see what this leisure company had to say. He’d only used this company for hotels and trusted them, although he would soon find out just how some of the company’s practices in the timeshare sector would prove to be less than totally trustworthy.

The following is a firsthand, written account about Reggie’s deceptive timeshare experience. We hope his story will help shed a light on the distrustful practices of the timeshare sales industry. Names have been changed or redacted due to privacy concerns.

When Reggie purchased a timeshare for his family, he thought he accurately understood the concept and details related to the vacation option. However, he soon discovered that he was misled when it came to the pertinent details of his timeshare, and the worst part was feeling that he was stuck in his timeshare for the rest of his life.

“We understood there would be a monthly cost until we reached a certain point with the payments (paying off the mortgage). We did not expect the fees though. There was a fee for everything - booking, changing, cancelling, membership fee, maintenance fee...just so many fees. I thought that was what the regular fees were supposed to cover?

In doing the math, we realized we were really overpaying for just a decent room.”

Reggie doesn’t think he was outright lied to, but he knows there were certainly some deceptive practices at work with the timeshare sales team. After all, timeshare companies are in the game for sales...not customer service.

“[The timeshare sales people] bent the truth quite often. Were they telling us out and out lies? Probably not.

It was never easy to book, you couldn’t book a cruise with your remaining points even if you tried, we weren’t getting a deal and they completely left out all the fees. The lady that ‘discussed our program’ with us during our last visit with [the timeshare company] was just a high pressure salesperson - once she found out we were not going to upgrade or purchase anything else, she just turned into a mean-spirited person.”

Fed up with the ridiculous fees, terrible customer service and lack of actually being able to use his timeshare, Reggie began searching online for timeshare exit options. He’d read reviews about Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG), before he decided to reach out to us about qualifying for our timeshare cancellation assistance!

“I’m honestly afraid to even begin calculating how much we paid for basically two vacations with our timeshare - one okay and one...not so much. I know it’s significant though.”

After nearly 16 months of hard work and persistence, and with WFG’s assistance, Reggie is now timeshare free!*

“For me, owning a timeshare was a complete unknown and we just thought we were trapped in having to pay this forever. It is by far the least responsible thing we’ve ever done and just the poorest decision possible. WFG laid out the path and told us what we didn’t know. They never told us it was going to be easy (and it WASN’T), and they ‘pulled back the veil’ so it was no longer unknown to us.”
