Wesley & Carrie Tried Multiple Ways to Get Rid of Their Timeshare

Wesley and Carrie’s timeshare ownership came in multiples: multiple timeshare sales representatives, multiple timeshares purchased, multiple attempts to use different timeshare units, and multiple exit strategies tried when they were fed up.

The following is a firsthand, written account about Wesley and Carrie’s deceptive timeshare experience. We hope this family’s story will help shed a light on the distrustful practices of the timeshare sales industry. Names have been changed or redacted due to privacy concerns.

When Wesley and Carrie were offered a free stay at a resort in Charleston, South Carolina, they didn’t think much of the presentation that was required with it. Wesley recalls the five star hotel and some pretty nice amenities along with the rooms. As exquisite as the resort was, the pressure from the sales meeting quickly changed the mood of the vacation.

They dealt with three different timeshare salesmen, facing more and more pressure from each one. The sales team fed Wesley and Carrie lie after lie throughout the presentation, each one piling on more lies and exaggerations than the last, to make the offer more appealing to them.

“The sales people told us we could make reservations anywhere with our points; that they had properties in destinations around the world; that our children would inherit this great investment; and that more properties were being added all the time that we could soon use - not!”

After they purchased the timeshare, the couple soon had trouble with booking. Although they were told they could vacation wherever and whenever they wanted, Wesley and Carrie realized that their points ‘package’ was virtually worthless.

Unfortunately, this is all too common with timeshare companies. The only thing consistent with these companies are the lies from the sales people and the automatic payments withdrawn from your bank account. The ‘availability’ of the units isn’t consistent at all, and you most often won’t ever be able to utilize your vacation unit the way you were once told.

“With the minimal number of points we have, our choices and times of year are very limited. You might as well forget the really nice properties. The few properties that were available to us, I’d never want to go.

The maintenance fees were also rising very quickly and we had to pay every year, even though we could only use the timeshare every other year.”

The couple has been very stressed between trying to actually use their timeshare and enjoying everyday life, so they began to look for a way out. They tried selling their timeshare, but the fees were astronomical. They tried exiting their timeshare, but the team of in-house lawyers couldn’t get the job done. Finally, they reached out to us here at Wesley Financial Group, LLC (WFG). With assistance from WFG and some perseverance on their part, Wesley and Carrie are now timeshare-free!*
