Michael and Barbara Get Pressured Into Multiple Timeshares

What could possibly be worse than a salesperson taking advantage of an innocent client? This is a personal account about a salesperson taking advantage of a veteran, who spent 20 years in active duty service and is still trying to acclimate to civilian life. This is what happened when Michael H. and Barbara F. attended a meeting about a timeshare just so that they could see a local attraction for free.

Below is a written account of the timeshare issues that Michael H. and Barbara F. experienced. We hope their first hand account will showcase the strategy that the timeshare industry often uses on good, unsuspecting people. Names of people have been changed and/or redacted for privacy reasons.

“The first event that led us to actually go to the meeting was the free tickets to a local attraction. Since we do not have a lot of money, it seemed like a quick one hour way to get to see a local event. Unfortunately, after about five hours of pressured sales, bullying and harassment, we signed up and the event tickets were not worth what we were put through to get there.

We were guaranteed that once we bought more than one timeshare and achieved star elite status, that all our woes regarding scheduling and getting access to some of the more exotic or attractive destinations, would go away. That never happened and it never will happen. We are more in debt than ever, paying more in maintenance fees, and we still cannot get into anything.

So we have to pay about $175 per timeshare contract to convert to points to use elsewhere. So I am paying maintenance fees for a condo I own and points I have earned, and yet to convert adds another $1000 to actually do anything with these albatros'.”

After serving our country in the military, Michael feels that he’s been taken advantage of for his mental conditions and lack of awareness in civilian life.

“I have spent 20 years of active duty serving the U.S. Marines. Once I left I never really had the opportunity to be a civilian before this meeting. I believe I was being taken advantage of since I was not truly acclimated to the civilian environment. When I left the U.S. Marines, I left with post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, depression and other mental challenges including the stress of these timeshares increasing. Physically, I have had seven knee surgeries, colon resection, and prostate cancer. I firmly believe that the level of pressure they put on a person regardless of their physical or mental state should be an investigation unto itself.”

Michael and Barbara contacted Wesley Financial Group, LLC and we were able to terminate four out of their five timeshares. We are currently in the process of helping them terminate their fifth and final timeshare.
